I love how God can turn our mess into a message to share with others. My newest mess would be a severe reaction to poison oak exposure after working in the yard. I was unaware of it and the symptoms did not appear for a couple days and started out as a mild discomfort. Well, as usual I believe in going to the throne before going to the phone, so I prayed and rebuked, casting out the infirmity still not aware it was poison oak exposure. Fast forward a week and I was at the doctor's office in severe discomfort. The treatment is basically a three-step process of:
Clean- wash with soap and water
Apply antiseptic- to kill any germs present
Apply skin protectant- (calamine) to seal out any external germs trying to get in
That natural process struck me as similar to the three-step spiritual treatment process of our Christian walk. The spiritual three-step process consist of:
Believe- Wash with the blood and the living water of Jesus Christ
Repent- to kill any sins present
Follow- (Holy Spirit) to seal out any external sins trying to get in
I thank God that one of the benefits of salvation is being sealed by the Holy Spirit, who acts as our advocate as a Helper, Comforter and Counselor. When we are filled with the Holy Spirit, he will bring to our remembrance the things Jesus taught us and the itch to sin will be healed. Thanks be to God and our Lord Christ Jesus. Amen.
